Eine neue Initiative verspricht, Bewegung in die Frage nach der Rückgabe der Elgin Marbles an Griechenland aus dem Geist der perfekten Kopie durch moderne Technik zu bringen (geschätzte Kosten 15 Millionen GBP):

Oxford-based Roger Michel is offering to replace the original sculptures with replicas that are accurate to a fraction of a millimetre.


[…] “You give back the Elgin Marbles, does France have to give back the Mona Lisa to Italy? Where do you stop?” he (i.e. MP Mel Stride Conservative - Central Devon) asked. But Michel argues that his copies would be better than the originals, with missing noses, amputated toes and mislaid fingers restored. Some of the sculptures could also be returned to their original appearance, painted in what may appear to modern eyes to be garish colours.
